Lyrics

We are all connected, and we always have been
no matter what has passed or what all will happen.
See, those who touched your heart will live inside you always,
and they still give us strength through these long and hard days.
I sit and still think about Jacque and Jane.
Without you this world is just not the same.
I think about my Tia Ligia and I still smile,
and hope you understand how much you meant to this child.
Every dia de los metros, and everyday in between
we pray to be strong through the pain that you’re gone.
Your photographs, or your name in a song.
It gets better, but it’s taking so long.
And I’m no Fred Rogers, but I try my best to be
in honor of how much you meant to me.
A long life is short, and I accept the fact
that our time here is precious, and remember that.

Leaves change colors and fall to ground.
Even the kings and queens of the tallest mounds.
You live inside our memory like a lost and found
that helps us to hear and see you all around.
Leaves change colors and fall to ground.
Even the kings and queens of the tallest mounds.
You live inside our memory like a lost and found
that helps us to hear and see you all around.

Michael Jackson did a song called “Gone Too Soon”,
and then in 2009 we all saw the news.
Remember M.L.K. Remember Sandy Hook.
So many times that all we can do is stand and look.
So helpless and heartbroken as we say goodbye,
because they thought to leave a mark, they need to take a life.
Man, I train in martial arts, but I don’t train to fight.
It’s cuz protecting your loved ones is a sacred right.
Even though sometimes we fight and lose,
and carry on no matter what cuz it’s the life we choose.
Even when we catch ourselves wondering what we could have done different.
Our time here is temporary, but the love isn’t.
Losing you was the hardest thing I’ve ever lived through.
You didn’t deserve it, and it shouldn’t have been you.
And if there really is a heaven, you belong there.
Until then, memories of you is what we all share.

And for all the Chester Benningtons, and all the Robin Williams,
the Elliot Smiths and all the millions
who carried a cross that was too much to bare,
despite all their friends’ and family’s love and care,
and made a terrible choice that none of us saw coming.
They up and leave us to pick up the pieces.
Feeling angry, heartbroke, and full of regret.
Wishing they were still here, wishing they wouldn’t have left.
Leaves usually fall like they’re on a timer.
Please don’t blame yourselves for the Autumn Snyders.
Give thanks for the good times and how it was once.
And if you want to help, check in on your loved ones.
We will never forget your and your amazing being.
And we’ll hold you in our heart with every changing season.
No, we’ll never forget you and your amazing being.
Forever hold you in our heart with every changing season.

See, anytime somebody you love dies - it’s too soon,
cuz your world splits. You don’t know what’s what, and who’s who.
And the pain never really goes away, you get stronger.
You take whatever’s thrown in your face, and it’s an honor.
Some of us have had to bury our sons and our daughters.
Walking through the cemetery with flowers we brought them.
Some of us have had to spend many nights in the hospital.
And some got the call randomly. There’s been a tragedy.
And nothing we can do except honor them somehow.
We toast to their memories, and hope that we never see
our loved ones fall, cry, stumble, or shed blood.
And what we would give just to see you again once.
Just one more hug, and one more conversation.
Just to kick back with you looking up at constellations.
But we can’t turn back the clock, and we cannot reverse days.
We just wish we could still call you on your birthday.
